  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Stir in chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.
  4. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  5. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.
