Scale
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
1 clove garlic, minced
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
6 hamburger buns
Instructions
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.
Stir in chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Add tomato sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, yellow mustard, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto hamburger buns and serve immediately.
Notes
For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes.
Serve with a side of coleslaw or potato chips.
