Savory ground turkey picadillo, a flavorful and versatile dish perfect for a quick meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped green olives
  • 1 tablespoon capers
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
  2. Stir in onion, garlic, and green bell pepper. Cook until vegetables are softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add diced tomatoes, beef broth, raisins, green olives, capers, cumin, and oregano. Bring to a simmer.
  4. Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until flavors meld and sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  6. Serve hot with rice, tortillas, or as a filling for empanadas.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add a pinch of red pepper flakes with the cumin and oregano.
  • If you prefer a sweeter picadillo, you can add a tablespoon of brown sugar.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
  • Picadillo can also be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
