Sweet Potato Tots are a healthier alternative to traditional potato tots, offering a slightly sweet and savory flavor with a crispy exterior and soft interior. They are a great side dish or snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for baking/air frying)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grate the peeled sweet potatoes using a box grater or food processor.
  3. Place the grated sweet potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out as much excess moisture as possible. This step is crucial for crispy tots.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the dried sweet potatoes, flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is evenly combined.
  5. Form the mixture into small, cylindrical tot shapes, about 1-inch long.
  6. Arrange the tots in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray or brush with olive oil.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. If air frying, cook for 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, you can freeze the formed tots for 30 minutes before baking or air frying.
  • Adjust seasonings to your preference. A pinch of cayenne pepper can add a little heat.
  • These tots can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer for best results.
