These Philly Cheesesteak Egg Rolls are a delicious twist on a classic sandwich. They feature thinly sliced beef, onions, and cheese, all wrapped in a crispy egg roll wrapper and fried until golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 pound thinly sliced beef (e.g., ribeye or sirloin), cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 12 egg roll wrappers
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  2. Add the thinly sliced beef to the skillet with the onions. Season with salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the shredded provolone and mozzarella cheeses until melted and well combined with the beef and onions.
  4. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean, dry surface with one corner pointing towards you. Place about 2-3 tablespoons of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of the wrapper.
  5. Fold the bottom corner of the wrapper over the filling, tucking it in tightly. Fold in the left and right corners towards the center. Roll the wrapper tightly from the bottom towards the top corner. Moisten the top corner with a little water to seal the roll.
  6. Repeat with the remaining filling and egg roll wrappers.
  7. Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep skillet over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Carefully place a few egg rolls into the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for 3-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Remove the egg rolls from the oil with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add minced garlic to the onions while they are caramelizing.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef mixture.
  • These egg rolls can be made ahead of time and frozen before frying. Thaw completely before frying.
  • Leftover egg rolls can be reheated in an oven or air fryer until crispy.
