Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 2-inch chunks
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Place sweet potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  2. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until the sweet potatoes are very tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain well.
  3. Return the drained sweet potatoes to the pot. Add the melted butter, milk, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mash the sweet potatoes with a potato masher until smooth and creamy.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  6. Serve hot.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use heavy cream instead of milk.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for extra warmth.
  • For a healthier option, reduce the amount of butter and brown sugar.
  • Leftover mashed sweet potatoes can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
